Pathlight Foyer Café opened its doors on 9 September 2013 in Pathlight School foyer.
This community project was made possible with the collaborative effort and support of our long-term corporate partner, Starbucks.
Pathlight Foyer Café is a training worksite providing authentic work experience to prepare Pathlight School Vocational Track senior students and other E2C clients for job placement in Starbucks outlets.
Parents and visitors can now enjoy a cuppa made by E2C trainees according to Starbucks’ stringent standards at Pathlight Foyer Café.
6 E2C clients, including Pathlight School Vocational Track senior students, passed Starbucks Managers’ assessment. They started work at Starbucks outlets in November 2013.
In February 2014, Starbucks opened its 100th outlet in Singapore, which was dedicated to social causes as a ‘give-back’ to the community. All 6 E2C trained clients were re-deployed to Starbucks’ 100th outlet at Fullerton Waterboat House.
2 of them impressed the Starbucks Managers so much that they were made role models for Starbucks District Stores! Well done Hardy and Marcus!
A new collaboration was established with local bank UOB for job placements in their backroom processing functions.
In October 2013, 6 clients started work at UOB’s Scan Hub performing scanning, indexing and archiving duties.
More job placements with UOB are in the pipeline.
Marcus is a young adult with an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma. Currently, he is employed by Starbucks as a full-time Barista.
Marcus shared, “I know now why some people are happy to work in their current jobs, and what different people think of me as an employee and as a person. Through E2C, I am more confident about finding and keeping a career, and I sincerely hope that other people in this programme can benefit as well as learn to be more understanding of people’s jobs.”
Calvin is a young adult who graduated with a Higher NITEC in Information Technology. He is now employed as a Retail Assistant in the Bakery Section at NTUC FairPrice.
Calvin’s mother shared her thoughts, “Calvin is now more confident and a happy person and feel less inferior. Previously, he was worried that he will be dependent….for financial and emotional support . . . I am glad that (E2C) is still continuing follow up on his job progress and give him support and guidance in his present job.”
